In 5th grade, students come to music for 45 minutes. This is the year in music, where everything comes together. Our studies are based heavily on knowledge acquired in previous years. We expand our recorder skills by adding new notes and playing more difficult songs. We add accompaniments with other classroom instruments. There is a strong cross-curricular connection with math during this year, as we focus on time signatures and measures. Some of the key concepts we work on this year are listed here:
  • Recorder
  • Staff
  • Solo
  • Dynamic markings
  • Tempo markings
  • Standard notation symbols
  • Theme
  • Variation
  • Transcribe
  • Time Signature
  • Style
  • Culture
  • Folk song
