I was fortunate to travel to South Africa this summer together with members of the Dearborn Community Chorus. Our choir participated in the World Choir Games, a special event where choirs from all around the world meet and compete. Our choir had a lot of fun during workshops with fabulous conductors and learned a lot. I also was able to listen to some amazing children's and youth choirs! Take a peek!

I have wanted to post some pictures from this summer for a while now. While on vacation in Switzerland this summer, my family and I had the pleasure to go to a concert in Basel. Marching bands from various countries had come together to perform in one big, magnificent, outstanding show. It was very impressive to see their choreographies and hear them play.
With Valentine's Day just around the corner, here is a beautiful medley of Disney love songs. Amazing!! Many of my classes work with songs from the Nutcracker during the month of December. We analyze, move, use scarves, ribbon streamers, play along with instruments,... I found this fascinating video and wanted to share it. To ring in the Holiday season, how about the famous song "Carol of the Bells" in a few different versions... And the original version in Ukrainian: I was fortunate to be in Switzerland on "Swiss Day" August 1st this year. We heard a traditional yodeling choir, alphorns, and the bugle. It's amazing what you can do with boomwhackers! Watch this group play Bach's Preludium :-) Here are few musical impressions from my 2-day trip to NYC. The Metropolitan Opera: The David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center I was fortunate to watch an amazing concert by the Swiss Orchestra "21st Century Symphony Orchestra" playing the movie score to the movie "Lord of the Rings". My best friend from college was playing the harp, which I didn't want to miss. What an experience! To see the movie on the big screen with all the dialog and sound effects, but the music was played by the 100 musicians and 80 singers from Switzerland. The youth choir was from Brooklyn. It was very educational to watch the conductor reading and conducting from his score, but also having to watch the movie on his tablet with pulsating lights for the beats, and purple, green, and blue lines for preparation, start, and end. It was an unforgettable experience. Here is a youtube clip from the Orchestra playing the music to "Pirates of the Caribbean" . Instead of watching a show on Broadway, I went to a show at Radio City Hall. "New York Spring Spectacular" is a whirlwind tour through New York with singing and dancing, starring the famous Rockettes and also Derek Hough from "Dancing with the Stars". I was especially impressed by the set changes and the beautiful costumes.
Country Oaks Kindergarten students have spent three weeks listening and moving to the songs from Camille Saint-Saëns' "Carnival of the Animals". We played along with rhythm sticks, moved with scarves, colored pictures while listening to the "Aquarium", counted the donkeys braying, and had fun discovering this musical suite. Ask your child to show you the movements to the "Lion" or "Hens and Rooster" song, count the braying of the donkeys with them, or see if you can discover "Twinkle, twinkle" during the "Fossils". At the end, we analyzed the "Finale" and then watched the short Fantasia movie clip shown here. |
