                 Performances

We Perform! We Have Fun!

Because of the 4 day rotation schedule, there is no more time set aside in our schedule for a Performing Arts block where all classes would be able to practice together. Unfortunately, there will not be any big evening performances happening at any of the elementary schools from now on. I will offer choir and musical experiences as part of Huron Valley Recreation's Empower Hour.

2019-2020

Spring Mills 5th graders will perform two songs at the Highland Tree Lighting and the same songs at the Holiday with the Arts concert at Lakeland High School in December.

"Read a Book! Sing a Book" with the Highland 4th Graders!

4th graders at Highland celebrated books and the joy of reading with songs all about books. They also read three books while adding Orff instruments to the stories. They even played a recorder song to an orchestra track. It was fabulous! Listen to the track below to hear Tia and Maddy play a recorder trio with soprano, alto, and tenor recorders.

Recorder Journey Around the Globe with Spring Mills 4th Graders!

The 4th graders at Spring Mills did a great job at their Spring concert last week! It was a difficult concert where students accompanied all the songs on Orff instruments, ukuleles, and played recorders in every single song. They also sang all the songs, one song in Spanish, one song in Russian! That was very impressive. Thank you so much for your generous donations after the concert! We raised $220.91 that will go towards buying the music selection for next year's concerts.

Holiday Concert at Highland Elementary

Congratulations to our 5th graders on a beautiful Holiday Concert! It was a joy to watch and hear you perform. The soloists sounded great, the recorders did a fabulous job with their two part song, and I believe everybody in the audience enjoyed your songs. Thank you to everybody who came and performed in the evening. Even though you were smaller in numbers, you sounded fantastic!
HVS TV recorded our afternoon concert and DVDs are available for $10.

"Dear Santa" at Spring Mills Elementary

What an amazing show!! Even weeks after our two performances, I still get a smile on my face when I think of the fantastic job our 5th graders did with their musical! It was an incredible accomplishment and I am so very proud of their hard work. To see the journey from the beginnings of the musical, when we started practicing the songs, to the final show, with all its soloists and dancers - it will be memorable for many years to come. Congratulations to everybody on their hard work practicing the songs, learning their lines, coming for extra dance rehearsals, and working as an audio and stage tech crew! You made this musical a success!
Our collection at the end of the concert brought in $236! Thank you so much! I was able to purchase additional supplies (like tunics and other Music-Go-Rounds and some snow balls) to go with our Music-Go-Rounds that I got through the HVEF grant. Stay tuned for pictures from the next few weeks...

Highland and Spring Mills 5th graders out and about

Our 5th graders at Highland Elementary and Spring Mills Voices were busy during the Holiday season. Highland 5th graders kicked off the season caroling downtown Milford during the open house from the Milford businesses. Then, both Spring Mills Voices and the Highland 5th graders sang at the Highland Tree Lighting. They did a wonderful job and I was excited to see so many faces, even though it was so cold! I especially enjoyed the two-part song, where the two schools harmonized beautifully. Later in that same week, Spring Mills Voices sang at the Holiday with the Arts concert at Lakeland High School. You all looked great in your red-gold T-shirts and did a fantastic job singing!
Thank you to all the parents who brought their children to those extra-curricular performances!

4th grade - Unplugged!

Recorders and Ukuleles, Xylophones and Drums, Guiros and Boomwhackers - the 4th graders played them all! The students had an intense last month of preparations that lead to their concert on April 26th. I can honestly say that they have learned so much and have grown in their musical abilities. It was a joy to perform in front of a packed audience during our evening concert and it was wonderful to see such pride in the students' eyes. Thank you for supporting music education by bringing your child to the concert and I appreciate all the donations after the concert. You raised $351.57 that will cover the insurance for the new ukuleles and will help maintain the beautiful instruments we have. Thank you so much! Thank you also to Mrs. Sheldon for the photos!

5th Grade Concert: Positivity Rocks!

Our 5th graders did a wonderful job both during their afternoon concert and their evening concert! They had lots of energy, did a great job singing our songs, playing handbells and ukuleles, and Macy sang a beautiful solo. Thank you to all the students who shared their personal stories on how the different character traits affect their lives. This might have been the best concert to date (and Mr. Muffley's favorite) and I'm so glad that Huron Valley TV recorded it. Thank you to everyone who donated their change after the concert! I'm humbled by your generosity. You raised $258.95 that all went to the DonorsChoose project "Go Bananas for Music". Thanks to a match that was in effect on our concert day, the project was fully funded that night! Woohooo!

4th grade concert was Fantastic!

Picture
The 4th graders performed in front of a full house for their concert "Toot, Pluck, Boom!" on June 1st at 7pm. They did a great job singing their songs, switching to all the different instruments, and playing the recorders and ukuleles. One of my favorite parts were their own compositions. We have some talented composers at Spring Mills!
The collection at the end of the concert brought in $77 that was applied to the open Donors Choose project: Let the Drum Speak Your Mind! Thank you so much for your support!

Fantastic Veterans Day Concerts at Brooks and Spring Mills on November 11

Congratulations on four fantastic Veterans Day Concerts given by the 5th graders of both schools!

November 11 sure was a busy day!
10:30am - Concert at Spring Mills for Veterans. What a special concert! We had so many Veterans who came to our concert and whom we could honor with our songs and poems. It was very special to have the Color Guard there, one Veteran played Taps on the bugle, and to have all Veterans in attendance receive a medal - a very touching moment. The 5th graders did a fantastic job singing their songs and reading their poems. Thank you to the girl scouts and the PTA for organizing refreshments for our Veterans. Thank you also to Mr. Fabinski for the beautiful art work to honor our Veterans.
2:30pm - Concert at Brooks for Veterans and students and staff. A great first concert by the 5th graders at Brooks! It was special to invite all the students of the school to this concert and thank you to Mr. Burke for playing Taps on the trumpet. Thank you to the Brooks PTO for handing out flowers to all attending Veterans.
6:00pm - Concert at Brooks for the families. Although we had only about half of all 5th graders in attendance, those that came bravely sang for their families. It was a very nice concert. Great job!
7:00pm - Concert at Spring Mills for the families. It is always fun to sing in front of a big audience! Thank you for coming out and supporting the music program with your presence! I was very proud of the 5th graders' performance, with all soloists and recorder players as well!

4th and 5th grade recorder performance

The 4th and 5th graders presented a small concert on the recorders for the 3rd graders and parents on June 2nd in the afternoon. They showed the 3rd graders what to expect when they get to be 4th graders next year. Students did a great job playing songs from our Recorder Karate program!

4th grade Concert was amazing!!

Our 4th graders had been working very hard to prepare for their Spring Concert "A World of Music"! They did an outstanding job in both concerts, afternoon and evening. They sounded great, did a wonderful job with all those languages, and brought joy to everyone who listened. I'm very proud of them!

Spooky Sounds are upon us!
