Singers of United Lands (S.O.U.L.) visited our district this week with stops at Spring Mills, Lakewood, Kurtz, Oak Valley, Country Oaks, White Lake Middle, and Brooks. Students were treated to songs native to their four countries (Albania, Kenya, Malaysia, and Norway), heard interesting facts about those countries, and were able to ask questions. Students enjoyed the interactions with the singers and even learned some words in different languages. A HUGE Thank You to the host families: the Muffley Family, the Wallo Family, the Worswick Family, the McGraw Family, the Weiss Family, the Baert Family, and Mrs. and Mr. Mantela.

Students at Brooks got to experience the singers in an school-wide assembly. Three classes were lucky to be able to meet up with the singers in a more informal setting in the music classroom in the afternoon. They got to see pictures from the foreign countries and ask lots of questions.
On Thursday, all elementary music teachers got to spend two hours with the singers, learning songs and games from the different countries. We also asked questions about music education in the singers' countries and enjoyed getting to know them. We all agreed, it was an amazing morning!

S.O.U.L. visits Spring Mills Elementary!
Thanks to a grant of the Huron Valley Education Foundation, S.O.U.L. was able to come twice to Spring Mills. They met with the 4th grade students and taught them four songs from four different countries. S.O.U.L. was also part of the 4th grade winter concert, where they presented a selection of their own songs and then performed together with the 4th graders. The students enjoyed the collaboration very much and remembered especially the Australian song until the end of the school year.
